Although the law in the United States clearly states that every driving citizen must have automobile insurance, yet there is a large number of people who simply ignore this law and are driving uninsured.

Though the authorities on auto insurance have been in existence for the past four decades the insurance industry claims that there has been no improvement the the safety of the roads or the insurance rates. And this has arose doubts about the mandates as to whether or not they are efficient enough.

However, the law of the the states has nothing to do with a person having an insurance, it is their financial condition. The states which have a high unemployment and poverty rate also have a general increase in the number of people who do not have auto insurance. In other words the people who do not have enough money just dont prefer to get insurance. And this is not only for the auto insurance, it goes for health or other insurances as well.

Initially, President Obama was not in the favor of individual mandate however now his view has seemed to change. He said Were not going to have other people carrying your burdens for you any more than the fact that right now everybody in America, just about, has to get auto insurance.

Other than Wisconsin and New Hampshire all the states have made it mandatory for the people to have automobile insurance, and although the residents in the two aforementioned states can drive in accordance with the law they still have to provide evidence that they have enough financial means to cover the damages in case there is an accident.

Yet there are nearly 15 percent of the people in US that simply do not have any kind of auto coverage. This number is almost the same as US citizens who do not own any health insurance. The thing with auto insurance is that you can avoid it by not driving at all, but health insurance is unavoidable and yet to have health insurance is only mandatory in the state of Massachusetts.
